Scarborough Sea Life Centre
It has to be said that our work can be quite interesting at times, no two days are ever alike and we were recently contacted by the Scarborough Sea Life Centre to erect a net over the new Penguin enclosure. This was no simple task due to the location of the North Sea and the corrosive nature of the environment that this brings to standard fixings, wire ropes and brackets. We decided to go for all Stainless Steel fixings, including a 4 meter centre post and various other brackets and fixings. The net was to be 50mm squares to keep out larger birds that may bring in Avian Flu with them and ultimately affect the Penguins. The protection of these little chaps was paramount and there was no questioning the importance of this project, it simply had to be right.
This project only took 3 days but it was long hours and we needed to brave the elements, especially on the first day when the gale force winds were howling straight at us from the cold North Sea. The frame was erected on the first day and the netting fixed to it over the following two days.
The time scale that we were given was very tight and with just ten minutes to spare we completed the work and the penguins were re introduced to their refurbished home.
